If you’ve ever stood on the keen edge of an abyss, breathed the rarefied air of a mountain peak, stared into the maw of an approaching rapid, or encountered species in the wilds, you know that tingling feeling that rafting brings with it.

So, whether you are contemplating your first float trip, or wanting to raft down the Grand canyon of India, the River Zanskar, you will find a unique blend of excitement and tranquillity with the fulfilment of intermingling with unique cultures as well. The best time for the Zanskar River expedition is in July and August. This trip is combined with a fascinating jeep safari from Leh to Padum which is the put in point and then, one exits at Nimu near Leh.

The holy Ganges and Yamuna rivers have challenging white water sections also allowing a glimpse of temples. The mighty Zanskar River traverses through its gorge to the confluence of the Indus. The best time for this is in the winter months of November and December.

Deluxe Rafting through India’s Grand Canyon – The Zanskar Gorge

21 July – 5 August 2018

On this journey you travel to Ladakh with its monasteries, palaces, villages, hikes and travel to one of the most surreal places on the planet. The trip begins with a flight into Leh. You spend two nights in Stok Village near Leh acclimatizing at 11,000 feet above sea level and visiting the local sites around Leh , before heading east to Kargil before turning south into the valley of Zanskar, one of the coldest inhabited places on earth. Starting the trip on the Stod river, you begin your self contained multi-day river adventure down the spectacular and scenic Zanskar river gorge.

The trip takes you down the extremely desolate, remote and sheer Zanskar gorge with walls rising a few thousand feet out of the river bed, culminating on the mighty Indus River, (which incidentally lends India its name).

You finish this trip with a night in Leh before flying back to Delhi the next day. Undoubtedly a classic, this journey to the last truly lost horizon of your shrinking planet – Zanskar, the “land of white copper” is a trip of a lifetime.
